What is holistic psychotherapy

Holistic psychotherapy is taking the world by storm, and for good reason. It is what we practice here at tawk because it is effective and gives peace, happiness and results to our clients.

Holistic psychology is an integration of mind, body, and spirit. It examines the person as a whole, with all the complexity and richness that it implies; this differs from traditional mental health therapy as the traditionally mental health professionals have often emphasised one aspect and neglected the other. In a holistic approach to psychotherapy, everything is accounted for and many different elements are considered when providing a person's care, this ensures the care provided is effective and nothing is missed. Many different skills are called upon when appropriate, such as physical health awareness (exercise and nutrition), tailored daily habits, deep relaxation and psychosomatic therapy.

This way of therapy takes symptoms as signs of dis - ease on a deep inner level and collaboratively works with the client to identify and move the triggers of symptoms out of one’s life and positions the client towards happiness, peace and fulfilment. Holistic therapy is a journey of total life alignment by incorporating all channels of one’s life, unlocking the best way individuals can heal, balance and inevitably, transform their presenting psychological issues.

HOLISTIC THERAPY HELPS WITH:

  • Can deal with and significantly reduce depression

  • anxiety and overwhelm

  • grief and trauma

  • co-dependance

  • addictions of all types

  • eating disorders

  • emotional dysregulation

  • high stress

  • numbness

  • insecurities of all types

  • self-acceptance, respect and compassion

  • anger management

  • unexplained pain in the body (psychophysiology)

  • feeling lost and purposeless in life

  • struggles with acceptance and discontent

  • problematic states of mind and disordered reactions

 How does that work?

Holistic psychotherapy has proven effective as it balances the body’s neurochemical signalling systems and provides the individual greater control over one’s self. Holistic psychotherapy is both an art and a science, and is a divine balance between positively influencing the individual towards greatness and working with the body and brain, particularly the limbic system (house of emotions).

The holistic psychotherapy process works with the vital parts of the body and brain that influence our mental and emotional activity. Some key parts of the brain that are focused on in therapy include; the amygdala (reactivity, emotional regulation, stress response), prefrontal cortex (focus, actions) and the hippocampus (houses memories, learnt beliefs/theories).

Participating in effective therapy and working with these parts of the brain over time can quite literally change the way your brain works, this is called neuroplasticity. Consistently influencing the brain positively or negatively is ineluctably, how life is experienced. Holistic psychotherapy teaches how to positively influence and creates life and brain habits that move toward the desired state of being.
